The 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am is the only Trans Am to have a six cylinder engine.

It is also the car that was chosen to represent the 1989 Indianapolis Motor Speedway Pace car on May 28, 1989.

Extremely fast with a turbo charged V6 engine designed by the Buick Grand National engineering team, the car did not need any modifications for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway racetrack.

This car sold over the reserve price at the Mecum auction for $19,000, a relative bargain for a limited edition, low mileage muscle car.

This car is rare in that it is only 1 of 24 manufactured with no T-Tops and a hardtop roof.

The hardtop may have hurt the bidding a bit. These cars have been over $20k for years with pristine ones coming close to or over $30k. Even though the hardtop is more rare rarity does not always insure desirability.
