Re: Re: 77 W72 trans am Restoration
the shaker's center line was about all sanded off. it had 4 paint jobs on it I stripped off. I made a new line with duraglass filler , and a polly filler over that to feather it to a sharper line.
the fenders, doors and trunk lid are DONE and ready to go on the car to check body lines.

Doug,
Nice work on the shaker. I like how you made a new center line with duraglass filler....looks like original...precise work.
It is amazing how you can work with plastic, steel, pot metal and fiberglass and get great results.
Is there any material that you don 't do yourself and send out?
I assume chrome?

Great job Doug. What year did they add the centerline to the shacker?
Re: Re: 77 W72 trans am Restoration
pic of the trunk parts. I still need to get all the trunk area decals. I also won a nice used Hurst hatch bag for 50.00, its not here yet.

Re: Re: 77 W72 trans am Restoration
sorry its been to cold to do much, but have worked on her some.
I havent seen her with her clothes on in so long . I almost forgot what she looked like. ;D
once I sharpen the body line on the fenders and make sure all the lines look A+ it will come back apart for the P-word
it will get its first coat of paint before it comes apart. this one will be painted 2 times. the first coat will be wet block sanded , to look for the really small waves
I worked on the tail lights today. I took apart the one and cleaned and painted the inside with silver caliper paint. and on the lens I used s silver paint marker. the other lens is the original chrome, but will still take it apart and clean and paint the inside. and touch up the chrome

It's the small things you're doing at will make this Firebird stand out from the rest.
Re: Re: 77 W72 trans am Restoration
picked up the paint , clear and reducer today
want to see what 700.00 gets ya? Im saving about 300.00 by putting a cheaper paint down for a bace. I wont used the hole gallon , it is just to cover the car. then we'll wet sand it and use the PPG black over that , then clear it. the 2 qts of black cost more then the gallon. ( both PPG urethane paints ) ( Omni is a PPG generic paint )
the plan is this weekend for the body. but if it rains we'll paint all the parts over at a friends paint booth.
also I got the front seat springs fixed and there ready for new covers
here is the link to the seat springs if you need them.

Damn Doug that first picture of your trunk looks like it has been chromed.
When done right no color looks better than black. And there is no question but you have done it RIGHT.
I really hope you can make it to this year Lawn Show with this car. looks like a Best of Show Candidate to me.
PS I'll take the $100

Re: Re: 77 W72 trans am Restoration
sorry , that 100 is my allowance for the week.
when done , it should look like a pool of used oil setting in the sun.
black chrome would be cool too..
as for the lawn show , you guys need to not make it on the same week as my POCI show.

yes all blk. in standard. I like standard over deluxe, I think it keeps the muscle car look. deluxe was to get the chicks to buy them.
here a few more parts for it.

Re: Re: 77 W72 trans am Restoration
this is the last time looking like this. paint tonight or in the morn.
the blue tape is spots I dusted some primer on where I wet sanded a little to far and found filler ( oops) a little touch up wet sand and it ready to seal.
going to try it with the doors on , I dont want to . but there a pain to put on without chips. if I dont like it , we'll pull them wet sand the jams and fix them.
